| PRAYER REQUEST: Jordanian family forced to flee their country |
|
Jordanian Christians have requested our prayers for a family that has been forced to leave the country. Ramzi is a Believer from a Muslim Background (BMB) and is married to Mona, a Believer from a Christian Background (BCB). They have two children. Two events have prompted their decision to flee.
Greetings in the name of Jesus, the Good Shepherd
On Sunday (23rd March) Ramzi was beaten up and his father filed a lawsuit against him. The father charged that Ramzi had committed apostasy (i.e. had left Islam) and therefore he sought custody of Ramzi’s two children. When Ramzi appeared in court, he told the judge that he was never a Muslim, but had been an agnostic before deciding to follow Jesus. The judge sentenced him to one week in jail for contempt of court. However, en-route to prison he became ill due to his injuries from the beating. He was taken to hospital instead and spent one night there handcuffed to his bed. Later in the week he was released on bail.
In a similar case in 2004 and 2005 another BMB was convicted of apostasy by a Shari’a personal status court and had all his civil rights removed and his marriage annulled. Therefore, Ramzi and Mona have justified concern that they might lose the custody of their children. They left Jordan earlier today (i.e. Friday 28th)
Also on Sunday Ramzi’s brother, also a BMB, Ahmad was beaten up. His wife and children were forcibly taken by her brothers and a lawsuit was filed against him by his, and Ramzi’s, father. However, he said the Shahada (i.e. the Islamic creed) three times before the judge and is therefore considered to have legally returned to Islam.
Jordanian Christians supporting these families request our prayers that: a. Ramzi, Mona and their children will know the Lord’s provision, protection and peace in their new location b. They will know the healing touch of the Spirit, physically and psychologically c. A place of permanent settlement will be found for them d. Ahmad and his family will know the Lord’s provision, protection and peace, and that normally family life will be restored e. All BMBs in Jordan will know the inner peace of Jesus and live without fear f. The Jordanian legal system will be changed to prevent other BMBs being treated in this manner g. All officials involved will feel and respond to the love of Jesus |
