Religions and mission in the Arab world
SEPTEMBER 2008: Vivienne Stacey

This issue of our magazine is fully focused on Ms Vivienne Stacey, a lifelong missionary in the Muslim World. You will find her major writings in this issue on our frontpage. If you click the button Vivienne Stacey you find many other articles by her hand; we will continue to upload new articles there, so keep coming back!

This week we received the news that our sister Shirley Madany has passed away; her husband, Rev. Bassam Madany, regularly contributes to our magazine. We wish him comfort of God in the certainty that his beloved wife is now with our Lord. Let us pray for Bassam.

We have also made dozens of articles by Bassam and Shirley Madany available in the past weeks. Under the button Madany's you find them.

Please let us know how we can improve St Francis Magazine so that it serves your needs in mission in the Arab World!

Dialogue with Islam

We promised to keep you updated on new reactions to A Common Word, the initiative by 138 Muslim scholars to invite the Church worldwide to a religious dialogue for the sake of peace. Well, here are the World Evangelical Alliance and the Rev. Colin Chapman, a lifetime missionary in the Arab World, with seemingly opposing views. Then there is Don C. Warrington, Ministries Coordinator for the Church of God Lay Ministries, giving us some very sane advice...

Rev. Colin Chapman explains why he does not agree with Patrick Sookhdeo of Barnabas Fund and Mark Durie in their criticism of the Yale respons to the A Common Word. Chapman himself has signed that response, and defends his position as he is criticized by some of his fellow Christians.

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) responds directly to those Muslims who invited the Church to dialogue. WEA shows that Christians also want peace, and asks where Christians are attacking Muslims, and why Christians in many Muslim lands do not have the freedom to worship and live their Christian lives. This response does not sound as if WEA expects this to be the starting point for a dialogue.

Finally, in the midst midst of all this, Don C. Warrington has some sane advice for all: Muslims and Christians must drink more wine together...wine of the Sufi's.
