This week we received the news that our sister Shirley Madany has passed away; her husband, Rev. Bassam Madany, regularly contributes to our magazine. We wish him comfort of God in the certainty that his beloved wife is now with our Lord. Let us pray for Bassam.
We have also made dozens of articles by Bassam and Shirley Madany available in the past weeks. Under the button Madany's you find them.
Please let us know how we can improve St Francis Magazine so that it serves your needs in mission in the Arab World!

Missionaries, Monks, Martyrs: Making Disciples of All Nations |
Luke Alexander Veronis describes in this book the often overlooked missionary tradition of the Greek-Orthodox church. Mission, as a proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all creation, has always played an integral role in the very essence of the Orthodox church.
Certainly, there have existed periods when the Orthodox have been less active in fulfilling the Great Commission (Mt 28:18-20). But often, these lapses can be attributed to adverse historical conditions rather than indifference, Veronis argues. In fact, a host of missionary figures throughout the centuries have carried on the apostolic zeal of proclaiming the Gospel to all peoples. This present study will review the lives and ministries of a select number of these missionaries in order to show how mission has always been a part of the very nature of the Orthodox church.
